Stoke Climsland New Homes
Housing Development
Affordable Housing

I have found your web page and heartily agree with all that has been said. As a country born and bred individual I would hate to see my village damaged by the proposed development.

I am very fond of the village and those living within its boundaries. Any extension of the present building limits will irreversibly damage the present infrastructure and eliminate that quintessential village atmosphere. Do we want to grow like Callington?

In the 1920s the population of Callington, a small residential area, was 1700 people. Since then it has grown and continues to grow rapidly with factories and industrial estates and a conurbation that has now spread out to absorb Kelley Bray and beyond.

With such a growth, you are bound to get an undesirable element, and despite the Community Land Trust playing it down, the need by Callington Council to install CCTV at no inconsiderable cost, is sufficient evidence to prove that problems do exist.

Looking at matters from a practical view point, there are a number of properties for rent and purchase in the village, yet they are not exactly being snapped up. There is no real employment in the village, apart from the Duchy and all the new occupants will have to commute by car to places like Saltash and Plymouth for work and also their shopping.

Our single lane roads are hazardous enough already as it is, and another thirty odd cars traveling along these roads twice a day or more, is looking for trouble.

Many of our roads do not have pavements and we are therefore obliged to put our lives at risk on a daily basis as we go about our normal day to day activities. Some motorists are reluctant to slow down for pedestrians and we are obliged to dive into the hedge bottom for survival.

There are so many factors against this intrusion into our village way of life, but I must keep this short to avoid the obvious.

One final point that does really annoy me, is the fact that those running this scheme all live outside the village and are supported by others again all living outside the village. Is it possible for the village to get together to protect itself from this unwanted imposition by outsiders?
